National Youth Conference

The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC), with the support and collaboration of the Ministry of Education & Human Resources, Tertiary Education & Scientific Research, is organising the National Science Week 2018 to be held during the period 09-12 May 2018. During the National Science Week 2018, the RGSC is also hosting a first National Youth Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation(STI). This two-day event will be held on 09 and 10 May 2018 in the Auditorium of the RGSC.

About The Conference

The NYS is destined towards students of Higher School Certificate and the theme chosen is "Science, Technology and Innovation for the next 50 years of Mauritius". It aims to bring together students to raise awareness on how STI can play a strategic role in addressing issues of national importance and finding sustainable solutions to problems for a brighter future of our nation.

Participants of this conference will focus on matters related to poverty alleviation, healthcare, food and nutrition, digital literacy, clean energy, sustainable tourism, climate change and many others.

How to participate?

For the conference, students (single or in a of group of two) shall deliver a presentation of 10 minutes on their topic/idea, moderated by a Chairperson. But beforehand, each participant will be required to fill in a Registration Form including a brief of a maximum of 100 words on their topic/idea.

The topics/ideas will be scrutinised to give the go ahead for the participants to write an argumentative essay of a maximum of 1500 words, inclusive of titles, subtitles, figures, tables, images, captions, references etc. All the essays will be vetted and compiled in a publication that will be distributed to all secondary schools in Mauritius. The names of the students and supervising teachers will be acknowledged in the publication. A Guideline for Essay Writing is available and will be circulated via email upon registration.

Friendly Competition

The three best presenters and the three best essays will be awarded each cash prizes as follows:
1st Prize - Rs 5000
2nd Prize - Rs 3000
3rd Prize - Rs 2000
The supervising teachers of each winner will receive a shield.
All participants, including supervising teachers, will receive a certificate of participation.
