Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC) proudly presents the 10th edition of Science Quest. Science Quest
\n2025 represents a project-driven science competition that challenges students to apply Science and
\nTechnology in a methodical and pioneering manner to tackle real-world issues encountered within
\ntheir school, home, or local community.
\nThe aim of this competition is to cultivate scientific consciousness among students and encourage the
\npractical application of Science and Technology to enhance the quality of life.
\nParticipants in Science Quest have a unique opportunity to catalyse positive change through their science
\nprojects. By addressing real-world challenges in their schools, homes, or communities using science
\nand technology, they become agents of innovation, contributing to the betterment of society. Their
\nprojects are not just academic exercises but powerful tools to effect tangible, positive transformations.<\/span><\/p>\n

By participating in the science quest students are expected to:
\n\u2022 Use Science and Technology and the scientific method in a constructive and innovative manner.
\n\u2022 Devise strategies to deal with a specific problem by working in a team.
\n\u2022 Develop skills research, communication, and problem-solving skills.
\n\u2022 Develop their creativity and innovation skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participation in Science Quest is open to students of secondary schools across Mauritius. Students pursuing diverse academic paths, including science, mathematics, design and technology, and even non-science subjects, are cordially invited to participate. Science Quest aims to embrace a wide spectrum of talents and interests.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE<\/h4>\n

Students pursuing diverse academic paths are cordially invited to participate. The contest is open to secondary school students of Mauritius as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n


\n\u2022Category 1: Grade 7, 8 and 9
\n\u2022Category 2: Grade 10 and 11
\n\u2022Category 3: Grade 12 and 13<\/span><\/p>\n


\nParticipants should work in a team of FOUR students under the guidance of ONE Supervising Teacher\/Mentor. Each school may submit a maximum of FOUR projects per category. Finalists should submit a project report to the RGSC, participate in an exhibition and make an oral presentation of not more than 5 minutes in front of the Jury members during the finals.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. HOW TO PARTICIPATE?<\/h4>\n

The purpose of the project proposal is to explain the rationale and the expected outcome of the project.
\nFinalists will be selected based on their project proposals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Guidelines to write the project proposal<\/span><\/strong>
\n1. Introduction: Describe the current situation at school or in the locality.
\n2. Purpose of the Project: State the aims and objectives, including the desired change.
\n3. Methods: Describe the proposed step-by-step actions, experiments, measurements, and surveys.
\n4. Expected results: Present the project\u2019s outcomes and measurements.
\n5. Analysis: Discuss the implications and impact of the project.
\n6. Conclusion: Summarize the project\u2019s achievements and potential for improvement.
\n7. References: List sources, books, websites consulted during the project.
\n8. Acknowledgment: Recognize individuals who contributed to the project\u2019s success.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 2: Complete the Project<\/strong>
\nGuidelines to complete the project<\/strong>
\nThe key to a successful Science Quest project lies in the art of project identification, investigation and problem solving through scientific inquiry. The following guidelines may help students through the Science Quest journey.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

To start the project, teams may engage in:
\n1. Environmental Scanning: Participants should analyse their surroundings and explore global
\nissues using technology to explore emerging challenges in science and technology.
\n2. Community Engagement: Students can interact with local communities and expert
\nconsultation to seek solutions and guidance.
\n3. Interdisciplinary Exploration: Encouraging cross-disciplinary exploration to blend ideas from
\nvarious fields.
\n4. Daily Log keeping: Documenting insights, challenges, and innovative ideas in a daily
\nlogbook.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nSTEP 3: Project Report<\/strong>
\nGuidelines to write the project report<\/strong>
\nThe key to a successful Science Quest project lies in the art of project identification, investigation and problem solving through scientific inquiry. The following guidelines may help students through the Science Quest journey.
\nThe project report should include the following sections:
\n1. Introduction (About 1 page): Briefly introduce the project.
\n2. Purpose of the project (About Half a page): Define the aims, objectives, and reasons for undertaking the project. Explain the main actions to complete it.
\n3. Methods (About 2 pages): Detail the step-by-step actions taken, experiments conducted, measurements, surveys, discussions, interviews, and site visits.
\n4. Results (About 2 pages): Present outcomes, measurements, and results using tables, charts, graphs, and visuals. Describe the involvement of resource persons and findings from site visits. Document process improvement, if any.
\n5. Analysis (About 2 pages): Discuss project findings, their implications, impact on health and the environment, and benefits to school and friends. Make comparison if needed.
\n6. Conclusion (About 1 page): Summarize the project\u2019s impact, challenges faced, and suggestions for improvement.
\n7. References (About 1 page): List consulted books, magazines, and websites.
\n8. Acknowledgement (about half a page): Recognize people who contributed to project success.
\n
\nSTEP 4:\u00a0Prepare for display of project<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If you have been selected, you will be invited to display your prototype models and posters.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n


\nSTEP 5: Oral presentation<\/strong>
\nGuidelines for oral presentation<\/strong>
\n1. Present in either English or French.
\n2. Keep the presentation within a 4\u20135-minute time limit.
\n3. Provide a clear and logically structured description of the project.
\n4. Use visual aids effectively, including displays, posters, drawings, models, or PowerPoint presentations.
\n5. RGSC does not provide computers for presentations.
\n6. Any other support that enhances the presentation quality is allowed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Make appropriate use of Science & Technology

\n\u2022 The decision of the Jury will be FINAL<\/span><\/p>\n
