Photography Contest for Mauritian Citizens
This photography contest, organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, is dedicated to celebrating the profound impact of science on the lives of Mauritian citizens. We cordially invite participants to share their unique perspectives by submitting photographs that beautifully capture the theme of “Science in our daily life.”
OBJECTIVES
• Encourage Mauritian citizens to engage with the concept of science and its influence on their lives.
• Showcase the diverse ways science has shaped experiences throughout the decades.
• Promote intergenerational dialogue about scientific advancements.
• Promote photography as a powerful means of expression
SCIENCE IN OUR DAILY LIFE:
o Technological advancements in the home (appliances, communication devices)
o Medicine and healthcare (vaccines, medical innovations, fitness trackers)
o Transportation and travel (cars, airplanes)
SCIENCE THROUGH THE YEARS:
o Personal experiences with historical, scientific events (eclipse, moon observation)
o Evolution of technology throughout your lifetime (cameras, computers, phones)
THE HUMAN CONNECTION:
o Science careers and contributions
o Scientific discoveries that have impacted your hobbies or interests (gardening, space exploration)
o The future of science and its potential impact
• Entry free.
• A Maximum of ONE entry per participant.
• AI-generated images are not allowed.
• Participants may be called upon to produce a Mauritian ID Card.
• Must have a model release form in case portraits of persons are photographed
• The photo must be submitted in digital format: jpg or png, in colour or black and white.
• The submitted photo must be of high resolution (minimum 300 dpi). However, the file size of the photos should not exceed 15 MB.
• The photo must be in one of the following formats: 16:9, 4:3 (portrait or landscape), or square (1:1).
• Any other format (e.g., a panoramic option via a smartphone) will not be considered.
• The filename of the photo should be in the format “lastname-firstname.jpg” or “lastname-firstname.png.”
• To be eligible, the photo must have been taken in Mauritius and in 2024.
• Brief captions or descriptions (1-2 sentences explaining the photo’s connection to the theme) are encouraged.
• The photo can be digitally enhanced for exposure adjustments (contrast, brightness, colour balance, etc.). However, the content cannot be digitally manipulated.
• The jury members reserve the right to exclude any excessively modified photo.
• The photo submitted must be original and must not have been used in publications or awarded in other contests.
• Participants authorise the contest organisers to use the photos selected by the jury in any form, including reproduction, exhibition, printing, or for promotional or editorial purposes related to the contest or other activities, notably for digital publications, exhibitions, virtual galleries, reports, printed publications, notepads, agendas, etc.
• The photos cannot be used for commercial purposes.
• The used photos must necessarily mention the first name and last name of the author.
• Participants waive any financial or material benefits related to using their photos by the contest organisers. Under no circumstances will copyright royalties be paid to the candidates.
• The organisers reserve the right to crop the images as needed.
• Winners agree that their identity may be disclosed without demanding compensation or objecting unless they forfeit the prize.
• Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of these regulations.
• Any breach of these regulations will result in the disqualification of the candidate.
• The contest organisers cannot be held responsible for non-receipt of the application, alteration of the file, or the inability to read or process the file.
• The contest organisers reserve the right at any time to interrupt, delete, defer, postpone, or modify the contest and/or its terms after informing through appropriate means if circumstances require, and their liability cannot be incurred thereby. The regulations will then be updated accordingly.
