1. INTRODUCTION

Mathematics is the Queen of all Sciences. It is that one subject area that can be considered to fulfil most of the human needs related to diverse aspects of everyday life. Math improves our thinking, our analytical thinking and reasoning ability. The promotion of Mathematics is key to the promotion of scientific and mathematical literacy. With the advent of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, metaverse, data science, blockchain etc, excellence in mathematical sciences is becoming a key requirement for the development of a workforce   that can adapt to the evolving emerging technologies.

2. OBJECTIVES

The National Mathematics Contest is a competitive assessment of students for their mathematical skills and abilities. The primary objective is to instil a competitive mindset in students while unveiling the actual meaning of math learning. It also contributes to foster an interest in math and improve the mathematical skills of participants through individual competitions. Students develop good learning abilities. It strengthens their fundamental knowledge of problems.

3. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The contest is open to secondary school students of Grade 9 (or equivalent) in Mauritius. Participation is individual.  Each school may send a MAXIMUM of TWO participants. Participation must be endorsed by a Supervising Teacher/School Representative.

4. HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Each participating school should register a maximum of TWO participants to signify their intention to participate in the contest. The rector/supervising educator is invited to complete the registration online form on behalf of the school. Click here to register.

The deadline for registration is 20 April 2023

A certificate of participation will be offered to all participants.
