1. INTRODUCTION

Women in Tech Mauritius, part of the global Women in Tech® movement, is committed to closing the gender gap and empowering girls and women in technology. In collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, we are launching the first edition of Tech for Ecology. The Tech For Ecology is a project-based competition where students use technology to tackle real-word ecological challenge(s) that they face at school, at home or in the community. The Tech For Ecology competition aims to create awareness, inspire and engage young girls in the field of science and technology.

2. AIMS

The Tech For Ecology competition aims to raise awareness, inspire and engage young girls in the field of science and technology.

• Create Awareness & Inspire – Encourage college girls to develop innovative solutions that address ecological and digital   sustainability challenges.
• Promote Innovation – Foster creativity, teamwork, and environmental consciousness by exploring the intersection of technology and ecology.
• Develop Key Skills – Strengthen presentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through hands-on participation.

3. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The competition is open to girls of Grades 7, 8, and 9 or equivalent from all secondary schools in the Republic of Mauritius. Participants can participate individually or in a team of three (3) – five (5) students’ maximum under the guidance of one educator/mentor/parent/relative. Participants can register in the name of their school/club/organisation/group/family. There is no limit on the number of entries from a school/club/organisation however a student can be part of only one project. All participants/teams will be required to attend a workshop at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre.

 

4. HOW TO PARTIICIPATE

Step 1: REGISTRATION

Deadline: 24 April 2026

Step 2: WORKSHOPS

Registered teams are required to attend workshops at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre. The date and time of the workshops will be communicated at a later stage.

 

Step 3:WORK ON THE PROJECT

Students should work on project report and deliverables as outlined in the Deliverables section. Guidelines to write the project report: The project report should not be more than 10 pages. It should contain the following sections:
1. Introduction (About 1 page): Briefly introduce the project.
2. Problem Statement (About half a page): Describe the problem being faced, who is impacted by the problem/challenge
3. Aim and objectives of the project (About half a page): Define the aims, objectives, and reasons for undertaking the project.
4. Proposed Solution (About 2 pages): Detail the proposed solutions, describe the step by-step approach, who will benefit from this project and how it will create value for them?

5. Prototype (About 2 pages): An outline of the technologies and tools used, and how the project can realistically be developed and implemented. Describe your prototype by illustrating with snapshots/screenshots..
6. Expected outcomes (About 1 page): Describe how the project will positively impact the environment or contribute to sustainability.
7. Conclusion (About 1 page): Summarize the project’s impact, challenges faced, and suggestions for improvement.
8. References (About 1 page): List consulted articles, books, magazines, and websites.
9. Acknowledgement (about half a page): Recognize people who contributed to project success.

Guidelines for Video Presentation

1. Present in either English or French.
2. Keep the video presentation within a 3-minute time limit.
3. Provide a clear and logically structured description of the project.
4. Use visual aids effectively.
5. RGSC or Women in Tech Mauritius will not provide computers for presentations.
6. Any other support that enhances the presentation quality is allowed.

6. Important Dates

24 April 2026: Deadline for online Registration Mid-May 2026: Workshop at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre on digital sustainability, storytelling and presentation.
05 June 2026: Deadline for Submission
19 June 2026: Announcement of short-listed teams
26 June 2026: Finals and Prize-Giving ceremony
